About SACU

The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) consists of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Eswatini. The SACU Secretariat is located in Windhoek, Namibia. SACU was established in 1910, making it the world’s oldest Customs Union.

Did you know?

Historically SACU was administered by South Africa, through the 1910 and 1969 Agreements. The customs union collected duties on local production and customs duties on members’ imports from outside SACU, and the resulting revenue was allocated to member countries in quarterly installments utilizing a revenue-sharing formula.

The purpose for the Webinar is to disseminate information about the implementation of the AfCFTA by the SACU Member States, namely Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa. We will also cover the procedures and processes put in place in each Member States to facilitate trading under the AfCFTA. It is the first time, since the start of trading on 1st January 2021, for stakeholders in the SACU region especially the business community, to come together and deliberate, at the regional level, on issues related to the implementation of the AfCFTA.
